River Lights Plaza officially opens in downtown South Bend

On Friday, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and other city leaders officially opened the new river lights plaza near Seitz Park.

The plaza includes custom commemorative bricks purchased by South Bend 150 celebration sponsors and residents.

The lights have been reprogrammed with a new display just in time for Notre Dame football season, and will flash blue and gold when the Irish win a game.

Mayor Buttigieg says these new additions are another way to attract attention to the Saint Joseph River.

"This is a very important thing for our city. Our city no longer turns its back on our river. We now turn and face the river and there's no better way to highlight that, literally, than this amazing light show that we have every night in the heart of our city," said Mayor Buttigieg.
