Road construction brings difficult times to not only travel but also business owners.
BUCHANAN, Mich -- Many road construction projects are happening throughout Michiana, with the two major spots being U-S 12 and SR 2.
These closures are in addition to the complete remodel of many streets in downtown Buchanan. While the projects are not correlated, they both have had a big impact on travel. Tony McGee City Manager of the City of Buchanan says these projects were needed in order to move forward and provide better for the city.
“We do them now or we wait till the infrastructure fails and we don't have a choice when we do them so we can't plan with our businesses we can't plan with our community how that work happens”
These closures are not only affecting drivers but also for business owner Kent Molica, and it's causing business to slow down.
“They're doing a good job, it has taken a while, it's hard on business, people are going to avoid it. And now they have the highway shut down so people are avoiding it because they don't know if they can get through or not”
For SR-2, state cops are monitoring the area to help combat speeding violations and reckless driving that may also lead to traffic stops in the path.
Neither of these projects have a set end date, but we can expect them to continue for at least another month.
