Saint Mary's students going "shoeless" for a day

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The countdown to go without shoes is on and students in Michiana are getting ready for this worldwide challenge.

"One Day Without Shoes” is an awareness project. It was created by Tom’s Shoe Company. It's working with groups across the globe to spread the word that millions of children live without the proper footwear.

Students at Saint Mary's are joining the effort and Tuesday they'll go shoeless on campus.

"Hopefully from this day new things will develop such as clubs or organizations that can help continue this so it's not just a one day effort and so that it snowballs and can be a greater change so that we can really make a difference in the lives of others,” said Hannah Hupp.

The Saint Mary’s event is organized by the class of 2012 and the student government association.
