School district breaks ground for improvements to two schools

Niles Community Schools held official groundbreaking ceremonies at two of its schools, Ring Lardner Middle School and Howard Elementary School.

Energy efficiency will be improved at both schools. In addition, they will both receive upgrades to their technology infrastructure.

Ring Lardner Principal Doug Langmeyer says the improvements will be a big boost for his students.

"It has been a long time since we've done something like this in Niles. I've been in this district for 32 years and I remember very well 25 years ago when we had our last major construction program. So it was great to be able to have the students come out today and take part in this.

Officials say the goal is to have Niles students be on equal footing with peers across the region.
