ELKHART, Ind. -- Exactly two years ago 7-year-old Kristyana Jackson returned to her home on Kilbourn Street in Elkhart after watching a high school football game with her mom.
Kristyana was shot in the head during a home invasion that night. She later died at the hospital.
Two years later resident Rich Preheim is still confused.
"For something violent like this, not just even your run-of-the-mill break-in or robbery, for something violent like this to happen just knocks you back on your heels," Preheim says.
Kristyana's mom Kimi Jackson is still devastated.
"Somedays it's just like it just happened yesterday. And it's just frustrating not knowing who did it. The whys. Why me? Why our family? Were we targeted? Was it family? Did someone set us up? I mean, you have 101 questions that you deal with on top of trying to grieve with your child," Kimi said.
Kimi is trying to return to normal life by running her hair salon on County Road 6.
However, she is still waiting for Elkhart Police Detectives to call her with good news.
"It’s frustrating for them as well. And just with the things that they called us with last week, I just feel that they're going above and beyond right now doing anything and everything they can possibly think of," said Kimi.
Kimi and her husband John have hope, and they say they were just asked to come down to the police station last week because of a tip.
