Search of missing occupant of capsized boat on Lake Michigan continues

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Conservation Officers are continuing to search for a missing occupant of a boat that capsized on Lake Michigan, just outside of the East Chicago Marina, on Saturday afternoon, Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources said.

The missing man has been identified as Kevin Soto Crespo, 20-year-old from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. He has been missing since Saturday around 2:15 p.m. after the boat he was on capsized.

Three other occupants of the boat were able to put on life jackets and were rescued on Saturday, DNR said.

The search for Soto Crespo resumed Sunday, but strong wind and waves forced the search to close for today. The search by Indiana Conservation Officers and Lake County Marine Unit will resume tomorrow, weather permitting, according to the DNR.

The boat that capsized, an 18-foot Bayliner runabout has not been found, either. It was last seen several miles offshore Saturday afternoon when it capsized.

Anyone who spots the boat or any items that might be associated with this incident is asked to contact the Indiana Conservation Officers Central Dispatch Center at 812-837-9536.
