Seven states investigating Hepatitis C scare

NATIONAL -- Seven states, including Michigan, are conducting an investigation into whether a former employee infected patients with Hepatitis C.

Thousands of people across the country are now getting letters in the mail to encouraging them to get tested.

Police arrested a man accusing him of infecting people by stealing syringes and drugs for his own use and then using the same needles on patients.

"He knew he had Hepatitis C as of at least June 2010," U.S. Attorney John Kacavas said. "He continued to divert drugs, permitting tainted syringes to be used on patients under his care."

Hepatitis C is not curable, but is treatable.
