Severe Sunday across Michiana as storms roll though, leaving behind damage
Michiana entered today with two separate risks for storms, one in the morning and a more prominent one in the late afternoon to early evening time frame.
With plenty of sunshine and temperatures above 80 in most places leading up to the severe weather event, the storms we saw had plenty of energy to cause tornado warnings and damage across our region.
Clusters of storms began initializing just to the west of La Porte county, eventually transitioning into a more organized line of storms moving east.
The first tornado warning came shortly after as radar indicated rotation occurred towards Marshall and Starke counties.
Thankfully no tornado was confirmed by spotters, although there was plenty of wind damage.
One wind gust in Rochester, IN, was recorded at 62 miles per hour. Multiple reports came out of tree branches and limbs, as well as trees themselves, being blown over or snapped by the storms.
Some minor damages to homes, boats, and other property occurred as well.
On top of wind, hailstones as large as 3 inches were recorded in Knox, IN, with hail reported all across our area.
The severe risk for Michiana ended just before 5 P.M. EDT.
