St. Joseph County Police Department

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department announced Wednesday that several members of St. Joseph County Metro SWAT, made up of officers from the SJCPD, Mishawka, Pokagon Tribal police, and local doctors, were recognized at January's Merit Board meeting for their actions during the tense Mishawaka standoff on Dec. 21. 2025.

"You stood ready to take on the danger so others wouldn’t have to. You moved with purpose and skill, knowing the risks and you did exactly what this team was built to do," said Sheriff Bill Redman.

Authorities say negotiators, drone operators, tactical team members, and SWAT physicians were all critical roles in the event.

SJCPD's announcement reads in part, "Because of your coordination, skill, and unwavering focus, two adults and two young children (just 1 and 3 years old) were safely released after being held against their will. A female hostage was also rescued. All were physically unharmed and alive because of you."
