A girl was wounded during a shooting at Castle Point Apartments
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- St. Joseph County dispatch confirmed there was a shooting that took place at Castle Point Apartments, near Cleveland Road and Ironwood Road, in South Bend at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Saturday.
Sheriff William Redman of the St. Joseph County Police Department confirmed one victim of the Castle Point Apartments shooting as a young girl who suffers injuries to the face.
The girl was transported to a hospital and is said to be responsive and breathing, Sheriff Redman reported.
Sheriff Redman also reported early investigation of the shooting points to two teenagers as the suspects.
The people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting have been cooperating, Sheriff Redman reported.
“It’s a little upsetting to get here and realize that it’s all young people involved in this incident. The senseless acts of violence that are taking place in this community has to stop. The gun violence needs to stop, and it’s just getting out of hand. Somebody had a weapon, whether it was an accidental discharge or done on purpose, it’s a huge concern for us in law enforcement and we need parents and adults to step up and make sure they know what’s going on with their children and not allow them to be put in situations like this," said Sheriff Redman.
The scene is active and police are investigating.
