Single-vehicle crash kills teen, leaves two others injured
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – A single-vehicle crash on CR 108, east of CR 31, leaves one teen from Elkhart dead and two other teens injured on Friday just after 8:30 pm.
Deputies say that a 2008 Chevy Impala was driving east on CR 108 when the driver allegedly left the roadway and hit a tree.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s office, the teen that passed away has been identified as Juan Avalos Jr., a 17-year-old from Elkhart. He was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
Avalos was not wearing a seatbelt during the time of the crash, according to deputies.
The driver, an 18-year-old woman from Elkhart, and another passenger, an 18-year-old man from Elkhart, were transported to the hospital for their injuries.
This crash remains under investigation.
