Smith’s Downtown bar closes Saturday night dance parties

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Smith’s Downtown bar has announced on Sunday, September 6th that Saturday night dance parties they usually hold every weekend are cancelled until further notice. According to Smith’s this was done as a way to keep the public and their employees safe.

Smith’s cited growing gun violence in the area as the main factor in their decision, despite no problems happening inside or in front of the building.

The bar has been holding the dance parties for nine years.

“Although we have not had any problems inside or in front of Smith’s downtown it seems there are people loitering and having issues in the cities parking lot behind the antique mall,” said Smith’s in a Facebook post.

While the dance parties are shut down, Smith’s has said that they will be exploring other entertainment options to bring to the public.
