Cold and snowy, again
Snow showers blanketed Michiana on Tuesday morning ahead of New Year’s Eve festivities, creating slick road conditions and low visibility.
Road conditions in the area began deteriorating overnight, with the South Bend Police Department tweeting that the bypass in St. Joseph County was extremely slick and hazardous, along with all bridges and overpasses.
South Bend Police also said they were working multiple slide-offs on Monday night.
The Berrien County Road Department on Tuesday morning said to avoid unnecessary travel.
A jack-knifed semi-truck in Marshall County caused all lanes of southbound U.S. 31 to close at U.S. 6 Tuesday morning. INDOT said to use caution and avoid the area.
A winter weather advisory was issued for LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaGrange, and Steuben counties in Indiana and St. Joseph, Branch and Hillsdale counties in Michigan on Monday night that will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
