ELKHART, Ind - ABC57 is learning about social media posts containing antisemitic depictions of an Elkhart councilman.
The main subject of the images? Aaron Mishler. He is Jewish and up for re-election in the first district.
The mystery surrounding the images is, who made them?
Aaron Mishler, First District Councilman for the City of Elkhart, has been the target of recent antisemitic posts on social media.
These attacks began when he joined the council in 2020, even one depicting another council candidate turning on a gas chamber with Mishler inside.
He adds the attacks got more intense when he was volunteering in Ukraine as a nurse this past year and as the election gets closer.
Mishler declined an interview with us for now, citing concerns about the increased attention on this issue, but did give us a statement saying, “I’m in office to do a job and serve my constituents by listening to their needs and working to improve our community. Hate speech and antisemitism have no place in our community and campaigns.”
Tonna Robinson, a concerned resident of Elkhart, has been following the antisemitic comments and feels that antisemitism often goes unnoticed.
“I've been concerned for councilman Mishler's safety at this point because these antisemitic attacks are coming against, now members of his family and members of his home,” said Robinson.
