SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend Airport spoke with ABC57 on Monday about how they will prepare for the imminent snowfalls of the winter season.
Preparations for the winter months involve crews that come in at 6 a.m. and work 12 hour shifts that are dedicated to keeping the runways clear of snow.
Julie Curtis, the Vice President of Marketing and Air Service Development at the South Bend Airport, said, “We will have crews out here continuing to utilize the sand out on the runways, plows, brooms — whatever is needed to keep those runways and taxiways open for incoming and outgoing aircraft.”
Their goal is to ensure that the runways remain safe.
Officials at the South Bend Airport recommend that you call ahead of time to the airline you’re flying on to check on your flight status.
