South Bend playground destroyed by fire rebuilt

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A year ago, a fire destroyed the playground at Belleville Park.

In 2005, hundreds of volunteers helped build the Belleville Park junglegym. But in July 2011, someone set fire to wooden structure, burning it to the ground.

The city of South Bend used insurance money to replace the playground.

And today, ABC57 stopped by to see how it looks.

The playground is now made out of plastic but kids say it's still a lot of fun.

"The old one meant a lot to me. It was actually the first playground I ever played on," Sincere Hughes said. "I like the slides mostly because there's a lot of them!"

Renovations are expected to be done soon. Crews were out while we where there adding some last minute touches.
