South Bend Police offer a free Citizen’s Police Academy program

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend Police Department will host a Citizen’s Police Academy for free.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is to create cooperation between the city, citizens, and the police department.

Graduates should learn to know more about the individuals that protect the community, which can help residents learn why officials do what they do.

Some topics that will be taught and explained are:

Hands on demonstrations from K9, SWAT, and Bomb Disposal Unit

Crime Scene Processing

Shoot/Don’t Shoot stimulation

Patrol Operations

The program lasts 9 weeks, from Aug. 14th to October 9th and lasts from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings.

In order to apply to the Citizen’s Police Academy, one must be at least 18-years-old, never convicted of a felony, and have a passing background check.
