SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The City of South Bend and Mayor James Mueller temporarily renamed two city streets Monday to honor Solidarity Day and Dyngus Day.
For the time being, the intersection of Ford and South Warrant streets is renamed Dyngus Day Drive.
This is right near the West Side Democratic and Civic Club, which held its annual Dyngus Day celebration Monday.
Dyngus Day is a holiday traditionally held the Monday after Easter that celebrates all things Polish around South Bend.
Also included in the celebration was the renaming of the intersection of West Western Avenue and Laurel Street to Solidarity Day Drive.
The intersection stands outside LaSalle Landing Lodge #298, South Bend Elks.
Solidarity Day honors the Polish Solidarity Movement, which helped pushed communists out of power in Poland in the 1980's.
