South Bend rotary kicks off Red Kettle Campaign to aid Salvation Army

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The South Bend Farmers Market was lively as Christine Ringle and Mary Mathews led the Rotary Club’s Red Kettle campaign, raising funds for the Salvation Army and Kroc Center to meet growing community needs.

The fundraising drive officially began on Nov. 1 at the farmers market, where Rotary members wearing signature red aprons greeted shoppers and encouraged donations. The campaign, which will continue at various locations throughout South Bend, is a beloved tradition that unites residents of all ages.

Organizers Ringle and Mathews emphasized the importance of community support, highlighting the generosity of local donors and the benefits of multi-generational giving. “It’s heartwarming to see families and especially children take part,” Ringle said. Children who donate are invited to ring the famous Salvation Army bell, adding a cheerful note to the campaign.

The Red Kettle initiative comes at a crucial time for many local families facing difficulties. Organizers hope the community’s ongoing generosity will provide essential help to those assisted by the Salvation Army and Kroc Center this holiday season.
