SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend Community School Corporation on Friday announced that they would not be opening a proposed charter school inside Washington High School.
The decision comes after parents, teachers and students voiced their opposition to the partnership.
The Superintendent for SBCSC released a statement on the decision:
"The South Bend School Board will recommend at Monday's board meeting that the corporation end its negotiations with Purdue Polytechnic High School. Parents, teachers, students, and community members voiced their opposition to this potential partnership, and the board listened. We may revisit this after more student outcome data is available, after Purdue Polytechnic High School has operated in South Bend for at least a year."
Purdue Polytechnic High School is a charter school system that focuses on an education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
