South Bend schools want deputy superintendent to lead district

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Schools Board of Trustees offered the superintendent's job to Deputy Superintendent Dr. C. Todd Cummings.

If approved, Dr. Cummings would begin as superintendent on July 1, 2019, when Dr. Kenneth Spells' contract ends.

The board says it made the decision to offer the position to Dr. Cummings, instead of an outside candidate, because he is already aware of the challenges facing the district.

They believe it would create continuity in leadership of the district.

The school board will hear public input on the proposed contract during their regular meeting on Monday, January 28 at 5:30 p.m.
