Spiders, Skeletons, and more, one Bremen house goes all out for the spooky season
BREMEN, Ind. -- Jeffrey Chambers has owned this house for over 30 years. But in the last 12 years he started going all out for Halloween. Chambers says, “Twelve years ago, my wife let me buy three skeletons on clearance at Kmart, and here we are.”
Chambers says each year he tries to add a new piece or theme to the display, working from the outside in. “We start with the columns and the fence, because that's our border, and then we work to the inside from there.”
Over half of this display was created by hand. Chambers says he's had the help from his family and neighbors. One of those neighbors that lends a helping hand is Micah Nettrouer, the neighbor kid. “This fog system, just last night, and when we tested it, it was pretty good. It fogged out the whole area. It made it look like it was a real cemetery.”
From an outside view it may seem like Chambers cruises through the spooky season, but this project takes many hours of work and dedication.
Ian Chambers, Jeffrey's son says, "it's not something you can just go buy off Amazon, so it's a lot of time and energy.”
This house isn't all tricks; there are some treats involved. Chambers says on Halloween last year he gave out nearly 30 pounds of candy.
Chambers offers this small town a spooky escape for a good cause, collecting donations for the Mashall County Humane Society.
He says they collected around $500 and 400 pounds of dog and cat food along with blankets and other things for pets.
Chambers says he does it for the kids and the challenge.
