SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Health Department was awarded a grant for 6,000 more naloxone kits on Wednesday night.
Narcan or Naloxone is credited by health experts with counteracting opioid overdoses and saving countless lives. The county will use the kits to supply public access cabinets as well as trainings for community members and organizations.
The department initially received the grant in the Spring of 2024 and are receiving it again from now to spring 2026.
County officials have already requested all 6000 of the doses they were awarded since last spring, and, while they do have a good number of kits on hand, have not received the "restock" kits yet.
