St. Joseph County issues 'Extreme Cold Public Health Advisory'

The St. Joseph County Health Department has issued an Extreme Cold Public Health Advisory due to wind chill temperatures expected to drop below zero within the week.

The city says it is necessary to take extra precautions when temperatures become so low.

According to the department, residents should prepare with extra food and water in case of power outages, monitor the temperature in your home, dress warm and cover exposed skin, and avoid strenuous activities as the cold weather puts an extra strain on the heart.

The city is working closely with other agencies such as the American Red Cross and other city offices to provide more information on the steps to take when cold weather strikes.
