St. Joseph County opening warming centers

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -

There will be three warming centers open in St. Joseph County in addition to the weather amnesty locations that are open overnight.

The following locations will be open until 9 p.m. as warming centers.

• Charles Black Recreation Center, 3419 W. Washington Street
• Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1522 Linden Avenue
• O'Brien Recreation Center, 321 E. Walter Street

The weather amnesty locations are open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

• Center for the Homeless (813 S. Michigan, SB; 574-282-8700):  15 men, 2 families
• Life Treatment Centers (1402 S. Michigan, SB; 574-233-5433): 10 women
• Project WARM (211 W. Monroe, SB; 574-235-4150  x221):  30 men

In Elkhart, the Elkhart Central Fire Station on East Street will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday as a warming center.
