Starke County inmates plant trees in honor of Earth Day

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. – Starke County inmates got their hands dirty planting trees in honor of Earth Day.

Foster a Recovery Mentality participants and the Starke County Sheriff’s Department planted approximately 700 saplings.

F.A.R.M inmates learned how planting trees benefits the environment through the prevention of soil erosion, cleaning the air, providing habitats for wildlife, removing pollution and more.

Through F.A.R.M, inmates receive hands-on education in everything from farming and woodworking to cooking, taking those skills into the world after completing the program.

The F.A.R.M program began in 2016 as a way to address and begin the recovery process of inmates suffering from substance abuse in Starke County.
