Stay safe heading out to the beach this weekend
Our weather is off to a wet, cold, and cloudy start for the Memorial Day weekend. On the bright side, things look to get better as we get into Saturday and Sunday. The sunshine will move back in and temperatures will warm into the 70s.
If you had plans on heading to the beach and getting in the water, you might want to think twice. There are red flag warnings in effect until Sunday as waves could range from 3-6ft. Along with the waves, water temperatures are still very cold for this time of year. Water temperatures will stay in the 50s this weekend.
If you are outside, whether at the beach or just at home, make sure to apply that sunscreen. I spoke with one local Dermatologist who say's the different SPF values are important. Dr. Andrew from the South Bend Clinic recommends SPF 30-40 if you are outside for prolonged periods of time, at this point in the year. Not only should you wear sunscreen, but make sure to reapply it every 80 minutes, especially if you are swimming or sweating.
