Street temporarily renamed to Four Winds Invitational Drive in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Mayor Mueller alongside representatives from Four Winds, the South Bend Country Club, and Beacon Children's Hospital unveiled Four Winds Invitational Drive on Monday morning.
The new name is temporary for Michigan Street with the exact sign location at the corner of Michigan Street and Washington Street where the ceremony was held.
Director of Women and Children's Services for Beacon Health Systems Jen Tonkovich said, "The funds from the tournament have helped us purchase a new ambulance. We are a regional hospital, so we go out and pick up kids from all over the community and bring them back for care here in South Bend. So, the ambulance has been critical for that transport."
Officials said golfers will visit the Beacon Children's Hospital on Thursday as well as having a golfer throw out the first pitch at the South Bend Cubs game that same day.
South Bend Mayor James Mueller said, "This is a major event on the LPGA Tour, and it's great to see the focus here on South Bend, nationally, and around the world. But also, this is a great partnership with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi and Four Winds Casinos, where they also donate some of the proceeds back to Beacon Children's Hospital. So, it's a good cause. It's supporting a good cause here locally, as well as just a major event here in the South Bend region."
64 nations will be represented on the green and this will be the 13th year the tournament has been in South Bend with the last four being at the South Bend Country Club.
The beneficiary of the tournament is Beacon and Tonkovich said close to $1 million has been raised for the Beacon Children's Hospital over the years.
