Studebaker Museum to open Muppet exhibition Wednesday

Studebaker Museum

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Studebaker Museum announced the opening of "A Bear's Natural Habitat: The Return of Fozzie Bear's Studebaker."

This marks the restoration of one of Hollywood's most iconic cars. The exhibition will open on Wednesday, and run through Feb. 9, 2026, marking the first public display of the fully restored vehicle.

It features the 1951 Studebaker Commander driven by Fozzie Bear and Kermit the Frog in Jim Henson’s "The Muppet Movie" (1979). Known for its vibrant psychedelic paint scheme created by Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem in the film, the Commander has undergone an 18-month restoration by RazorFly Studios.

Visitors can see the car in its restored glory at the Museum’s Carmichael Bullet Nose Gallery for the first time.

The exhibit also includes a photo series documenting the restoration process, insights into modifications made for on-screen use by Jim Henson’s team, and the car’s history from production in 1951, its Hollywood career, to its return home at the museum.
