STUDY: Low glycemic diet best for shedding calories
If you're still trying to shed weight for the summer a new study shows that what kind of calories matter just as much as how many.
The study says it is no longer enough to just count calories but it matters what kind of foods the calories come from.
The study compared low fat, low carb and low glycemic diets and found that low glycemic diet works best.
A low glycemic diet helps burn calories and speeds up our metabolism.
"The quality of the calories that we can affect the number of calories that we burn off and that difference could be equal to an hour of physical activity without even lifting a finger," Dr. David Ludwig, the study's author.
A low glycemic diet includes normal amounts of protein, fat, and carbs but avoids process carbs like white rice, bread and sugar.
