Subway's footlong only 11 inches

Subway is firing back in the fight over its footlong subs. It turns out not all the footlong sandwiches are actually 12 inches.

It all started with a photo posted to Facebook by a customer in Australia who noticed his was only 11 inches. The post went viral.

Early in the week, Subway which operates 38,000 stores worldwide said the infamous 11-inch footlong "was clearly not baked to our standards."

"We strive for customer satisfaction. If proper procedures are followed they will measure 12 inches," said Mark Christiano, Subway's head of baking.

Subway released a statement saying their footlong is a registered trademark as a "descriptive name" for the sub, and is not intended to be a measurement of length.
