Teen driver fails to stop at stop sign leading to two-vehicle crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Marcellus Highway and Lawrence Road in Volinia Township on Saturday around 2:15 p.m.

Authorities' investigation determined a vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Kaden Smith of Osceola, was traveling north on Lawrence Road when they failed to stop at the stop sign and continued north through the intersection.

The other vehicle, driven by a 35-year-old Decatur, Mich. man, was traveling east on Marcellus Highway and subsequently struck Smith's vehicle.

Smith was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained from the crash.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
