Teen receives multiple citations after causing three-vehicle crash Tuesday

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of C.R. 17 and C.R. 40 around 4:17 a.m., Tuesday, for a three-vehicle crash.
Authorities say a 2015 Chrysler 200s, driven by a 17-year-old Elkhart boy, was traveling south on C.R. 17 approaching the intersection with C.R. 40.
A 2008 Hyundai Sonata and a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by a 31-year-old New Paris man and a 44-year-old Syracuse woman respectively, were traveling north on C.R. 17 approaching the intersection with C.R. 40.
The teen driver then began making an eastbound turn onto C.R. 40 in the intersection directly into oncoming traffic.
The Sonata continued straight through the intersection before striking the teen's vehicle head-on.
The teen's Chrysler came to a stop, while the Sonata continued northeast through the intersection before driving off the eastern edge of the roadway.
The Caravan continued north on C.R. 17 driving directly into the rear passenger side of the Chrysler before coming to a stop in the intersection.
All three vehicles sustained heavy damage.
The 31-year-old driver was taken to Goshen General Hospital with complaints of chest, left side, and neck pain.
The Elkhart teen was cited for Operating Without Ever Receiving a License, Failure to Yield Right of Way at an Intersection Causing Bodily Injury, Operating with Expired Registration, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Financial Responsibility.
