SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Morris Performing Art Center received a donation of $1 million dollars from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County on Friday.
With this donation, the Morris Performing Art Center is now one step closer to their campaign goal of $30 million dollars that will go towards renovating and upgrading the historic building. The Morris 100 campaign has successfully raised nearly $20 million of the $30 million goal.
"There's some basic patron comfort things we have to do. Replacing the seats, replacing the original concrete floor, the lighting, making it much more energy efficient, so we can save hundreds of thousands of dollars in utility costs every year over the next 20 years," said Greg Downs, Senior Project Manager of the Morris Performing Art Center.
Construction to revamp the Morris is now scheduled to begin on July 27th and it will reopen in September.
