The Music Village announces expansion to meet growing demand in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --  The Music Village unveiled its plans for expansion Sunday, inviting the community to tour the facility and experience live performances showcasing the nonprofit’s mission to encourage musicians of all ages and skill levels.

What began 12 years ago in a basement now occupies a corner on Michigan Street, and has officially outgrown its space.

The organization is operating at full capacity as demand continues to rise.

“We’ve seen our enrollment exceed even pre-COVID levels, so we have a capacity issue,” said board member emeritus Noah Davey. “For every person, it’s different what music means to them, but what we offer here is a way for anybody at any stage of life to plug in and interact with the community. I think it’s hugely important in the times we live in.”

The expansion plans include nine new classrooms, expanded programming and new recording spaces as part of a Recording Arts Initiative, designed to give local musicians the tools to produce and record their own music.

Funding for the project comes in part from The Future Fund, an ongoing fundraising effort launched by the nonprofit.

“Our Future Fund goal is $100,000, and that’ll help provide the remaining funds we need to start construction,” said Executive Director Laura Rae. “It’ll also help with all tuition assistance… so our new facility will be accessible to anyone.”

By the end of 2026, The Music Village plans to transform its adjacent empty space into a vibrant hub for community music.
