Tippecanoe teen sentenced to 15 years for Battery on infant daughter

Jacob Kats

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday that a young father has been sentenced following a March 2023 incident.

In March 2023, deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a child abuse complaint of an infant with suspicious injuries.

Further investigation by Riley Children’s Hospital and the sheriff's department determined the girl's injuries be purposefully inflicted by the infant’s father, 19-year-old Jacob Kats of Tippecanoe.

On Oct. 3, Kats pled guilty to Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, and was ultimately sentenced to 15 years in prison, with 13 years to be executed in Indiana Department of Corrections, and 2 years to be served on probation.
