Tornado hits Coal City, Illinois Monday night

Damage is left behind after a tornado rips through Coal City, Illinois Monday night.

The city is located south of Chicago.

The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down in the town and will now send damage survey teams to the area Tuesday.

The city's emergency manager says numerous buildings are damaged, including the fire department which appears to have been hit by the tornado warning siren.

The American Red Cross has set up emergency shelters for Coal City residents.
