Treasurer accused of stealing $50K from youth league

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- A Fulton County resident was arrested by the Mentone Police Department for allegedly stealing $50,000 from the Mentone Youth League.

According to Mentone Police, members of the Mentone Youth League board approached the police in September because they reviewed their banking statements and felt $50,000 of the league's money had been spent inappropriately for items not related to the league.

The Mentone Police did an investigation of the league's 2012 and 2013 finances and the result of that investigation was the arrest of Michael G. Fincher.

Fincher was the treasurer for the Mentone Youth League.

Fincher faces 5 D-felony counts of theft.

He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Wednesday and is being held on $2,000 surety bond.

The youth league plans to do an independent audit of their account to find out how much money is missing.
