Trial for Dellia Castile pushed back

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The trial for the grandmother of 10-year-old Tramelle Sturgis has been pushed back.

Dellia Castile appeared in court Tuesday morning. She entered a preliminary not-guilty plea. Castile is accused of knowing about the continued abuse of Sturgis’ children inside their home for years and doing nothing to stop it.

Her trial was originally scheduled for June 18, but has been pushed back to October 1.

The defense requested more time to review the transcripts of the testimonies made by Sturgis’ children during his trial.

Jurors found Terry Sturgis guilty of all 14 counts he was charged with on May 24, including beating his 10-year-old son Tramelle Sturgis to death in November 2011.

The state has also filed an amendment to upgrade charges related to Tramelle Sturgis from a Class B felony to a Class A felony.
