Trial scheduled for shooting outside South Bend bar in 2024

SOUTH BEND,Ind. -- A man accused of shooting and injuring two people after an argument in August 2024 has been arrested after failing to appear for court earlier this year, prosecutors said.

On Aug. 18, 2024, South Bend police were dispatched to the 600 block of Johnson Street for a ShotSpotter alert of 28 rounds fired. Officers found a large group of people gathered outside D Blues Spot and Bistro near the intersection of Johnson and Rupel streets, where two people had been shot.

Tawain Wilkins was taken into custody Sept. 10 on a warrant issued after he missed a March court date, according to court records. His jury trial is scheduled for Dec. 8.

Wilkins is charged with two counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon, both Level 5 felonies, and one count of criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony.
