Two arrested, charged in Armed Kidnapping, Robbery of 16-year-old

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department reports two men have been arrested and charged in the kidnapping and robbery of a 16-year-old boy on March 7.

The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged 19-year-old Alvonte Fox of Elkhart with Armed Robbery, a Level 3 Felony, Kidnapping, a Level 3 Felony, Battery with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony, Interference with the Reporting of a Crime, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.

An Elkhart County judicial officer ordered Fox be held without bond until his hearing on March 17.

The second suspect, 19-year-old Tyvonn King of Elkhart, was formally charged him with Armed Robbery, a Level 3 Felony, Kidnapping, a Level 3 Felony, and Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.

An Elkhart County judicial officer also ordered King to be held without bond until his hearing on March 17.

Police say on March 7, around 8:52 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Waterfall Drive after a 911 came in of a man screaming for help.

Officers arrived to find the 16-year-old victim who said two unknown men pulled up next to him in an SUV while he was walking Goshen Avenue near Middlebury Street around 8:35 p.m. that night.

The victim said the men pointed guns at him and made him get in the vehicle before later stopping the SUV near 1 Blazer Blvd., at which point the suspects demanded his backpack.

The victim said one of the men struck him in the head with a handgun at this time.

The victim was then able to escape and run away from the vehicle, but the men later caught up with him in the parking lot of 415 Waterfall Dr. The victim said that's when one of the men took his phone from him, smashing it, as he was attempting to call 911.

Members of the Elkhart Fire Department arrived and evaluated the victim, who declined further medical attention.

The report states around 10:21 p.m., an officer found the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of 3406 E. Ln. and located the suspects in an apartment at this location.

Police applied for and were granted a search warrant for the apartment. During the warrant's execution, officers found and seized a backpack matching the victim’s description, as well as a handgun, suspected marijuana, and suspected THC products.

Investigators also found and retrieved a second handgun and suspected THC products from the suspect vehicle in a subsequent search warrant for the vehicle.

Fox was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail.

King was also arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail.
