Two arrested following overdose death investigation

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police report an investigation into the fentanyl overdose death of a White Pigeon man came to an end Thursday, with formal charges laid against a Plymouth man and woman.

Police say 35-year-old Ernest Westerhoff and 32-year-old Alyssa Kring were each charged with Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death, Level 1 Felony.

In April, and ISP detective was contacted by Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team regarding the overdose death of the White Pigeon man who was found deceased in his vehicle in Michigan. 

The autopsy concluded a combination of drugs, including fentanyl, led to the man's death.

The investigation concluded Westerhoff and Kring were involved in providing the fentanyl that led to the man's death.

The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office received the investigation and found probable cause to charge the two.

Their arrest warrants were served to both in the Marshall County Jail where they are incarcerated on other charges.

Westerhoff and Kring had their initial hearings Thursday where bond was set at $100,000 cash for each of them.
