Two injured in apartment fire on Middlebury Street in Elkhart
ELKHART, Ind. - Two people were injured in an apartment fire in the 300 block of Middlebury Street on Monday night, according to the Elkhart City Fire Department.
At 7:05 p.m., the fire department was called to the area for an apartment fire with children trapped.
Units arrived and discovered heavy smoke from the third floor and fire coming out of a third-floor window.
Firefighters attacked the flames while searching for victims.
The flames were put out quickly and crews found no victims during a search of the building.
Six apartments were affected by smoke, fire, or water damage.
Two occupants were minorly injured in the incident. They were treated at the scene and released.
The investigation found the fire was accidental, according to reports.
