Two of three suspects arrested in stolen vehicle pursuit in Berrien County

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Two suspects have been arrested after they led several police agencies on a pursuit throughout Berrien County in a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office. A third suspect has not been located.

A Buchanan Police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Jeep Cherokee with a temporary license plate at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, but the vehicle failed to stop, reports said.

The vehicle fled southbound on Bakertown Road, and the officer lost sight of the vehicle, reports said.

A Berrien County Sheriff's deputy saw the vehicle westbound on US 12 near Dayton Lake Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver failed to stop and continued westbound on US 12, reports said.

A deputy set up stop sticks at US 12 near Lakeside Road.

The vehicle's tires were deflated but the driver continued until the vehicle struck a post and came to a stop on US 12 near I-94, reports said.

Three people then ran from the vehicle, according to deputies.

A La Porte County Sheriff's Office K9 and handler located two of the three subjects hiding in thick vegetation and were taken into custody.

The third subject was not located.

The two subjects who were taken into custody had felony warrants out of Cook County Illinois. They were identified as 25-year-old Chamaine Davis and 20-year-old Calvin Edwards.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Highland Park, Illinois.

Local charges are pending.
