ST. JOSPEH COUNTY, Ind. -- Restrictions at the U.S. 31/20 bypass and U.S. 31 interchange are expected to begin Monday, April 22, as Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Superior Construction will be working to wrap up their bridge contract that started in 2022.

"Beginning on or after Monday, April 22, there will be alternating lanes closures on U.S. 31/Michigan Street from Jackson Road to just south of Ireland Road, and the ramps from westbound U.S. 20 to southbound U.S. 31 and eastbound U.S. 20 to northbound Michigan Street will be closed," INDOT announced. "These closures will be in place through late May for bridge painting. The outside shoulders of the U.S. 31/20 bypass bridge will also be closed in relation to this work."

Officials say there will also be lane closures on the U.S. 31/20 bypass over U.S. 31 for bridge deck joint sealing and that traffic will be taken down to one lane in each direction.

Lane closures will also alternate on or after Wednesday, April 24 through late May.

"Work at this interchange has included replacing the U.S. 31/20 bypass bridge and lowering U.S. 31 beneath the bridge to increase the height clearance of the bridge," INDOT said. "INDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time when driving through this area and follow traffic directions carefully. Motorists should slow down, exercise caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones."
