Victim found in field may have overdosed

The Berrien County Sheriff's Office says the woman whose body was discovered in a remote field may have died of a drug overdose.

According to the investigation, a person went to the sheriff's office to report a body being dumped in a remote area of Benton Township.

Deputies found the body of Taylor Elzey on October 7 in a field.

Investigators believe Elzey was in an apartment in Hagar Township and died after accidentally overdosing on drugs.

Her body was then taken to the field in Benton Township.

The preliminary autopsy did not find any signs of assault or trauma.

The final autopsy report will be issued when toxicology results come back in a couple weeks.

The investigation will then be sent to the prosecutor's office for review.
