Victims of domestic violence remembered
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Victims of domestic violence were remembered during a special event in South Bend on Monday.
Victims' names were read during a ceremony at the YWCA of North Central Indiana.
Flowers were also planted in the agency's memory garden in the memory of three domestic violence victims, including Trina Winston.
Those involved wanted to remind others that it can happen to anyone.
"But the important thing to know is that it can happen to you," Linda Baechle, CEO of the YWCA in North Central Indiana. "It has happened to 18 woman since 2003. And victims really need to understand that it is a very serious situation and can potentially serious consequences for themselves and for their children."
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.
This was the first of several events planed to get people talking about the problem.
