Warsaw breaks ground on 'Millworks' 85-unit apartment complex
WARSAW, Ind.--- Where Owen's Supermarket once stood in downtown Warsaw will be a $21 million, 85-unit apartment complex.
The electric truck company, Slate Auto, is coming to Kosciusko County, just outside Warsaw, and promising more than 2,000 full-time jobs. But those workers need somewhere to live. With that in mind, Warsaw city leaders broke ground Tuesday on the new housing project.
The apartment building is set to be complete by this time next year.
"We're really close to the downtown," said Warsaw Mayor Jeff Grose. "Much needed housing."
Millworks will include a rooftop deck, a dog wash, bike repair and storage, stainless steel appliances, and quartz countertops.
Indiana-based AP Development is the builder and operator of Millworks.
"We will have a commercial, retail tenant on the first floor, which we cannot announce yet but that's in the works," said Jon Anderson, preident and principal of AP Development.
He said the first floor tenant is food-related, but not another grocery store.
"Rents will be market rate," Anderson said.
Dollar amount estimates for rent are not available yet.

"A complex like this, with 85 families, really helps in our desire for the people who find jobs here that aren't already residents, they have a place to call home," said Peggy Friday.
Friday, CEO of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation (KEDCO) said the housing conversation started early on in talks with Slate Auto. Slate is set to be operational by the end of next year and is promising more than 2,000 factory jobs in Kosciusko County.
"At KEDCO, we are concerned about housing, especially attainable housing. Housing for the workforce," Friday said. "Activity grows activity. So, we're just excited to see what follows."
This housing project joins Union Lofts, also on its way in Warsaw near Winona Lake.
