Web Exclusive: Are you prepared for winter?

MICHIANA -- Being prepared is the key when dealing with this nasty winter weather.

AAA suggests you keep certain items in your car at all times.  Here is the list of items you should double check you have in a safety kit before heading out on the roads this winter:

  • Jumper cables
  • Warm blankets
  • Boots
  • Gloves
  • Cell phone charger
  • Flashlights
  • Reflective triangle

One of the most important things that you can do right now is make sure to get your car battery checked.  Below freezing temperatures can drain the battery and leave you stranded.

AAA says that is one of the main reasons they get emergency service calls in the winter.

Also, make sure you keep your gas tank at least half full.  that will help to prevent your gas lines from freezing.

Before you hit the road, take the time to dust the snow off of your entire car.  That way, it will not blow onto your windshield or the windshields of other drivers.  Blowing snow can obstruct your view and lead to accidents.
