What to expect from the weather for Niles vs. Lakeshore football Friday night

STEVENSVILLE, Mich. -- ABC57 is Under the Lights for the Game of the Week with the Lakeshore Lancers and the Niles Vikings as the two battle at Al Stockman Stadium for a victory in Friday night's matchup.

Lakeshore is 6-1 against Niles since 2015, but the Vikings came out victorious in last year's game on their way to a deep playoff run that led to a loss in the state championship.

Over the last five years, the Lancers have played their first September games of the regular seasons in all kinds of weather. The hottest September kickoff temperature since 2020 belongs to 2022 with a temperature of 88 degrees at the opening kick.

Because of a passing cold front tonight, temperatures at kickoff in Stevensville will be in the low 60s. Winds come from the west this evening, resulting in gusts up to 25 mph at times.

It certainly feels like fall for Lakeshore vs. Niles tonight with lows expected to bottom out near 50 degrees. Plan on bringing an extra layer and a blanket if you are sitting in the bleachers.
